What’s Wrong with This Picture?
My new shirt is perfect ... except for one little thing. Plus a new Inconspicuous News Roundup!
I have a thing for green plaid shirts. So when I recently saw an online listing for the flannel shirt shown above — in my size, and on sale for just $17 — I snapped it up. When the package arrived, I was thrilled. I loved the colors, the fit, the feel of the fabric, and everything else.
Well, almost everything else. It turns out that there’s one little thing about the shirt that bugs me. Can you spot it in that header photo? It’s visible, but just barely (especially if you’re reading this article on phone), so let’s zoom in a bit on the lower part of the shirt. Take a look at these two shots:
As you can now see clearly, the bottom button and its accompanying buttonhole are both finished with orange thread. All of the other buttons and buttonholes have dark-grey thread. This wouldn’t matter if I planned to wear the shirt tucked in, because the bottom button wouldn’t be visible. But this is a casual shirt and I’m a casual guy, so I’ll always be wearing it untucked, which means the aberrational button will always be visible. It may seem like a small thing, but the lack of uniformity bugs me, plus orange doesn’t really mesh well with the shirt’s color scheme (plus-plus, as you may recall, I can get rather fixated on buttons).
So how did this happen? Like, did they run out of grey thread at the end of the production run or what?
