I have been loving IC. I had high hopes, and didn't disappoint. I have been a long time Uniwatcher, but I loved most of the non-uni posts. Especially things like your road trip chronicles (which sadly stopped during covid, understandably) and vintage stuff. I love road tripping, not taking interstates, stopping in cool old towns, so definitely related.
Nowadays, you can find uniform and logo news anywhere, but this...this is unique. And I've loved every minute of it!
Great stuff Paul. I always looked forward to you going off Uni topic on the old blog and you have not disappointed with the content on IC. The best part of IC is it's making me think more about the minutiae in my own world. And if you're getting me to think in a different way, that's really an awesome thing. Bravo, keep the content coming!
I’ve greatly enjoyed it. I figured I would like this and it’s been great. Two weeks after you started, my family and I went on vacation to Chicago. We stayed in the north side of the city, and I was incredibly excited to see speed humps on our street. They were accompanied by a sign correctly identifying them as speed humps! I then got to explain to my wife and small kids the difference between humps and bumps 😃
I've enjoyed your content here and you have an ability to find something people may ignore or overlook and write about it in a way that actually makes us think about it more critically while educating us. I appreciate the bringing attention to things that are hidden in plain sight. The article about the old Gulf jacket and catalog was a fun read and I really found it interesting!
I had a healthy dose of skepticism about this new format--hell, there's no shortage of content online musing the banality of the everyday world around us. But I have come to enjoy the roller-coaster of random curiosity you have taken us on. Keep up the good work!
i've been a Uni Watch reader for years, but Inconspicuous Consumption is like Uni Watch writ large where now EVERYTHING is fair game for the discussion and dissection of minutia.
I love it. I read the articles out loud to my family because I want to share how much joy reading them brings me. They are not as enthusiastic but are happy I have another outlet for talking about the important conundrums/decisions, stories, etc. that you bring to such glorious light. Keep up the great work Paul!
I'm in camp #3 (never heard of u until 1~2 wks ago) 😄... read the piece abt J.D. Vance's initials - exactly the type of < random but meticulous > write-up I do in my newsletter S-P-A-M (when I get to it that is 😅)
P. S. I went with "J.D." as that's what Scrubs used for the most famous guy bearing that name 🙂
So glad to hear it's going well! I came for the uni chat many, many years ago, but stayed for your fantastic writing style, interesting observations and cutting wit. Loving the new project!
Been reading Uni Watch since the early 2000's, and Paul has generously featured a good deal of my "work". I own a copy, and have read Paul's book. Sadly, no zine experience.
Paul, I am absolutely loving what you're doing these days.
I have also thoroughly enjoyed the few times we've been able to hangout. I wish it could happen more often. You gots to get to the StL for another croquet match. My new yard is massive, the guest bedroom is nicer, and our new custom mallets can't be topped.
It has been great reading your new stuff. I love your writing in general, but I especially love knowing that there are other people out there who think about the things you have been covering so far. It's like you're in my head.

As always, Paul, your take on life, everyday objects, etc is a joy to read.

And bomps? ;-)
Thank you, Paul!
I'm loving the blog, so far! Glad to have you back (and thankful that you'd hardly left)!

Thank you for bringing Inconspicuous Consumption back in a delightfully Futurama kind of way. I’m so glad to have it back in my life.

… anxiously awaiting a post about the different woods used in skeeball’s and the grains found in them.
Have a great weekend!
