My first Sire records were purchased in 1978 - Boney M’s “Night Flight to Venus” LP and “Rivers of Babylon” 45, and the 2-LP compilation “British Gold.” But it wasn’t long before I was buying Ramones and Talking Heads releases, and came to think of the Sire label as a sort of “Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval” for punk and new wave. Yet through all this I never noticed anything unique about the yellow label with the yin-yang logo as it revolved on my Lafayette LP/8-track unit. But that’s why we love Paul and rely on him to notice the day-to-day oddities the majority of us never notice.
