The timing on this post is incredible! I, too, am having surgery on a left foot bone tomorrow (my big toe has a bone spur that has caused a wound to form that won't heal due to continual rubbing). Best wishes to us both on speedy, left-booted recoveries.

Separately, I did not know what a bunion was until I read this post, apparently. I'd always assumed it was similar to a corn or a blister, but clearly not. Thanks for teaching me something today, Paul!

1) All feet are weird — and ugly.

2) Sorry, but those feet are extreme examples of #1.

3) I'll take a Blu-ray of Evil's Afoot.

Best of luck for a speedy recovery! If you’re going to be off your feet for a while, it seems like winter is the best time for that.

Can I make a request? Sometime in the next couple of weeks can you repost your homemade Irish cream recipe? It’s been a favourite in our house for a few years and I don’t seem to have it saved anywhere!! Thanks!!

Here you go, Mike:

1 pint Irish whiskey

1 can sweetened condensed milk

1 pint heavy whipping cream

1 tablespoon chocolate syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon almond extract

1 teaspoon instant espresso powder dissolved in 2 tablespoons hot water

Very best wishes for an uneventful surgery and recovery, and good luck for future shoe shopping.

I had an extra bone in each of my feet that caused pain and had surgery for that. A knee scooter was useful while I recovered.

I hate everything about this post. Like, literally cringe-worthy. And I'm not the one that has to go through the procedure! I don't envy you at all, Paul. Best wishes for a successful and speedy recovery!

Good luck on the excision--hope you have good health insurance. I recently had a more minor excision myself (no bones were broken), and was then happy to add "excision" to my vocabulary. And now your own procedure has given me yet another chance use it. Thanks!

One reason I'm having it done in December is that I already reached my insurance deductible for this calendar year, so the surgery will cost me just a $150 co-pay -- a relatively minor excision to my billfold.

Good luck, Paul. I had a bunionectomy about 40 years ago. I only did one foot, and have ever since wished I'd done the other soon after. The annoying part of mismatched feet is shoe-shopping.

Good luck with surgery, Paul! I had my shoulder operated on last year and the few days after I questioned my decision, but once the pain subsided and I healed it was an incredible improvement. Hope you find similar relief!

Good luck. Follow the post surgery guidelines. Rest it. Elevate it. Ice it. A win every day!

A very close friend had the surgery in Dec 2023. It was her right foot…My wife and me were with her everyday for a month. Pain was manageable but there were moments. She had stairs and that was problematic. She managed them real well. Elevating and icing kept swelling down and use of anti inflammatory otc were helpful. She got a walking boot at week 5. I’d say 3 months she resumed normal, albeit careful, life. Today.. best thing she could have done. Best wishes!
