1. Speed Limit Sign Update
Remember the unusual number font that I recently observed on the speed limit signs post along a Long Island highway called Nicolls Road? I have two small follow-ups on that.
First, as you can see above, I received a letter the other day from the Town of Islip. I figured this would be a response to my Freedom of Information Law request for info on how the number font was chosen, so I was excited to open the envelope. Alas, it turned out to be just a note officially acknowledging their receipt of my FOIL request. A bit unsatisfying, but at least an indication that the wheels are turning, albeit slowly.
Also, a few days ago I took a New York City ferry from Manhattan to Governor’s Island. This ferry sometimes carries cars as well as people, so it has a posted speed limit for cars driving onto the ferry. Check it out, at the top of this photo:
