Vintage Educational Bird Chart
I’ve written before about my fondness for old educational charts, and this one — produced in Germany, probably around the 1940s or ’50s — is a real beauty that I’m very happy to have added to my collection ($295, including shipping). I especially love the long-billed birds near the center and the little guy who’s squawking in the lower-right corner.
I’ve played around with a few different spots for this one, but it’s currently displayed in my dining room:
Vintage Typewriter Ribbon Canister
As I’ve probably mentioned before, I’m fascinated by the package designs for old typewriter ribbons. The ribbons were just simple office supplies, but the manufacturers tended to give the canisters very ornate Art Deco design treatments.
I have a small collection of these items displayed in my living room and wasn’t really looking to acquire any more. But when I saw this Harlee design, I couldn’t resist, so I snapped it up ($29) and swapped out one of the other canisters, which I sold on eBay. So the display now looks like this:
