Did This Shop Just Invent a New Letter of the Alphabet?

It sure looks that way. Plus: A rare graffiti sighting of my name and an unusual speed hump sign!

I was walking through the Brooklyn neighborhood of Fort Greene on Sunday afternoon when the sign shown above caught my eye.

The wayward comma after “Cigars” is an unfortunate mistake, but I’m more interested in the first letter of the second word. It’s not quite a “G” (indeed, it doesn’t match the last letter of “SMOKING”) and it’s also not quite a “C.” It’s almost like the signmaker has invented a new letter!

I’m not sure what font was used for the shop name, but I’ve never seen this character in any typeface.
