This is so cool Paul. What an awesome story. Along with Steve, you also are on the list with my other two all time favorite producers, Jim O'Rouke and John McEntire. I also don't know too many Shrimp Boat fans. A criminally underrated group that Sam Prekop was in before The Sea and Cake. I'm happy you finally got your copy, and kudos to the person or persons still trying to track those down who have yet to be blessed.
That's got to feel great having something tangible like that from a friend.

This is the second newsletter I have seen with the Alexandria mini-plow and my reaction is the same - "why couldn't the city have used that on the entrance to Holmes Run Park at the end of my street so I could catch the bus, going to the pharmacy without risking life and limb on ice for over 2 weeks?!" We had snow on the ground for almost three straight weeks. Sadly, Holmes Run didn't quite get frozen enough for broomball. Another day or two below freezing and I think it would have been...
Wow, what an amazing surprise! And that is such an original way to honor your friends and collaborators. I’m also impressed that whoever is in charge of Albini’s archive is taking the time to try to track down the remaining recipients.
Regarding the Ends series I’ve got a similar ongoing project in the ends of New York. I came across David’s work and that great essay a few years ago confirming the truism that everything you can come up with has already been done by someone else and probably better!
Wow!
This is a much better story than if they'd just sent it out at the time.
Something I came to really admire about Albini was his willingness to change his mind in public without being performative about it.
The friends list, the names I know, is a fine group of people to count yourself among.
Two Shoes lp’s and neither of them Black Vinyl Shoes! Paul, you’re full of surprises.
Actually, *three* Shoes LPs, *including* BVS!
Oh is that the lp on PVC?
Yes!
It's incredibly thoughtful for someone to be putting so much effort into completing this project several decades later!
It really is. Very special.
I have no words.
Ha! I actually tried to imagine your response to this one, Marty.
Amazing! What sort of pen or marker does it seem was used for the circling of your name? Do you know who had done the circling originally?
Silver or white Sharpie, applied by the band members at the time of release.
We used the PILOT Silver Marker (Extra Fine Point) paint pen. I still have the original one and that's what I still use on them.

That font deep dive from the roundup is soooooo good!
Yeah, it's a tour de force. Great topic, great research, great writing!
The album cover style reminds me of a certain memorial wall of names in DC. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story.

It looks to me like the spine damage could be repaired with a toothpick and a bit of glue.
Does your record have a serial number? If so I hope you got a prime number!
Not a numbered edition, unfortunately.
